December is an important month for several religions with people across the UK celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa amongst other holidays and festivals. Next week the children will have the opportunity to explore Article 14 which ensures children freedom of thought, belief and religion.
Every child has the right to think and believe what they choose and to practise their religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from enjoying their rights.
Our children will have the chance to think about all the different beliefs and faiths in our school, have respectful discussions exploring different views and celebrate the wonderful diversity of all our thoughts and beliefs.
We did it! We gained our Peace Schools status! Jumping straight to Level 2! This has been a whole school project under the umbrella of Rights Respecting Schools. The Peace School ethos is evident in our learning on rights, our school values, how our pupils work in groups to negotiate disagreements, our Restorative Approaches to positive behaviour, understanding citizenship so that pupils understand their voices need to be heard and our work in assemblies. A significant part has also been within the curriculum where the pupils have focused on positive role models, challenged stereotypes and learnt about key peace figures. Fantastic news! Thank you to the pupils, staff and outside visitors who have helped us on our journey.
We are very proud! The school has achieved the Teacher Parliamentary Ambassador status...Level Gold at that! We are so pleased and are delighted that the hard work of our children and staff has been so well received. Congratulations!
