  • Ukraine - support materials

    Wed 09 Mar 2022

Please find below details of a written statement on the war in Ukraine from Welsh Government.  The deeply concerning media reports of the war in Ukraine is extremely shocking to us all, and  the trauma experienced by the families exposed to this violence is unimaginable.   Please see below links/resoures that the Educational Psychology Service has pulled together to support vulnerable children and young people who might be experiencing significant anxiety as a result of current media reports. These are attached.

At a parent’s suggestion, Alaw Primary School will show our support for Ukraine on Friday 11th March, by wearing blue or yellow. This can be on socks, tops, hats etc.

If you wish, you can also donate a £1 which will be donated to the UNICEF Ukraine fund. Further details are available in the link below. As part of our work as a Rights Respecting School, we fully support the work of UNICEF in our world, especially now in these tragic times.

  • Article 29 - the goals of education.

    Thu 06 Jan 2022

Happy New Year and welcome to the first Article of the Week of 2022! We're using the theme of New Year and the resolutions we sometimes make to revisit Article 29 which is all about the goals of education.

Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. We hope our children will enjoy all of the activities which they will encounter as they will help us think about what they want to achieve this year and how can their education help them in this.

As well as being ambitious, it’s also important to be kind to ourselves in this process. So, classes will be kicking off the term with exploring the OutRight resources on mental health to support our learners.
